The 212-acre Gemini Springs was purchased in 1994 through the combined efforts of Volusia County, the Trust for Public Lands, the St. Johns River Water Management District and the Florida Communities Trust. Approximately 6.5 million gallons of sparkling fresh water bubble up from the two springs each day.

Boasting approximately 1,600 acres and proximity to other public lands, this site is an important piece of the puzzle in connecting natural areas between the Wekiva / St. John’s basins and the Ocala National Forest. Several boardwalks provide passage over wet areas and if you’re quiet, you may be fortunate enough to observe species such as River Otter, American Alligator and maybe even a Black Bear.

The distinctive character of Seminole State Forest is its ecological diversity, which includes almost all of the naturally occurring vegetative communities found in Central Florida. On Seminole State Forest, over 34 miles of hiking trails have been developed and are maintained by the Florida Trail Association.

Two trailheads provide primary access for recreational use. The Bear Pond Trailhead is located off of State Road 46, approximately 5 miles west of Interstate 4. Cassia Trailhead is located off of Brantley Branch Road, 0.1 miles east of State Road 44 in Cassia.

The refreshing 72-degree waters of Blue Spring greet visitors at this gem along the St. Johns River. After years of conservation efforts, manatee numbers reached a record high of 485 in 2018. To see the park’s wonders, visitors can hike along the spring run or on the 4.5-mile Pine Island Trail.
